The
In-Between Church: Navigating Size Transitions in Congregations
Alban
Senior Consultant Mann draws on her lengthy experience in helping
congregations deal with the hurdles and anxieties of expansion or
contraction in size. Often, congregations experiencing size change do
not recognize the need to change culture and form as part of the
successful adaptation process. Mann details the adjustments in
attitude-as well as practice-that are necessary to support successful
size change.

Purpose-Driven
Church, The
"If
your church is healthy," writes Rick Warren, "growth will
occur naturally. Healthy, consistent growth is the result of balancing
the five biblical purposes of the church." Those purposes can
only be accomplished when church leaders stop thinking about
church-building programs and shift their focus to a
"people-building process" involving fellowship,
discipleship, worship, and evangelism.

The
Battle for God
Brilliantly
and sympathetically shows how and why fundamentalist groups came into
existence and what they yearn to accomplish. Focusing on
Protestant, Jewish, and Muslim fundamentalism, she examines the ways in
which these movements, while not monolithic, have each sprung from a
dread of modernity.

The
Battle for Christmas
This
scholarly analysis of our modern celebration of Christmas pulls together
a thoroughly convincing case for the widely accepted notion that it is a
19th-century creation, indeed a deliberate reformation and taming of a
holiday with wilder pagan origins.

Unitarian
Universalist Association Publications
UUA
BOOKSTORE
The UUA owns two book-publishing houses, Beacon Press and
Skinner House Books. Books from these and other publishers are available at
the UUA Bookstore.
Skinner House Books
Skinner House publishes books for Unitarian Universalists—meditation
manuals, worship and church resources, and books on theology, UU history
and social justice concerns. Skinner House began as a denominational
imprint of Beacon Press in 1976, publishing books aimed directly at the
spiritual needs of Unitarian Universalists. Most but not all Skinner House
authors are UUs, and the books not only appeal to individuals as aids in
their search for truth and meaning but are the sources of readings in UU
worship services as well. Skinner House titles are almost all paperbacks,
with an average purchase price of $12.00.
Beacon Press
Beacon Press is an independent publisher of serious
non-fiction and fiction books that represent the values of Unitarian
Universalism. Beacon Press books often change the way readers think about
fundamental issues. They promote such values as freedom of speech and
thought; diversity, religious pluralism, and anti-racism; and respect for
diversity in all areas of life.
